We strongly believe that age is not a disease and that older pets just need a little bit more care and preventative medicine to stay fighting fit. Our Senior Cat Clinics are used to assess senior cats for the common diseases that we see in our Golden Oldies such as osteoarthritis, heart disease, dental disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, subclinical urinary tract infections, hyperthyroidism, and hypertension, among other conditions. By checking healthy elderly cats for common conditions that we see in our geriatric patients we hope to be able to improve their general health and welfare and prevent any unexpected visits.
We offer a variety of nurse clinics including weight watchers, diabetic pet support, confidence classes, dental care, and puppy pre-school, among others. Veterinary nurses are professionals who have gained academic and practical qualifications and are registered and governed by the RCVS like vets. Many of our veterinary nurses have additional qualifications, including certificates in feline nursing, emergency and critical care, and behaviour.
We offer acupuncture in combination with conventional medicine as an effective treatment plan for many musculoskeletal and other painful conditions. This approach is extremely safe when practice correctly and is well accepted by the majority of animals.
We have a variety of equipment on site in order to diagnosis your pet. This include digital xray which can be used to assess your pets bones and jones, dental xray to assess the health of your pet’s teeth under the surface, and ultrasound which we use to image your pets internal organs. We also have flexible endoscopy that we can use to look inside an organ or body cavity and obtain tissue samples in a non invasive way. We currently have one vet completing a certificate in Diagnostic Imaging.
Bruce was brought to vet Sarah for assessment by a local rescue after they had been asked to take him on. Bruce was a lovely and very affectionate puppy but it was immediately obvious that he had a big problem in the form of a very large umbilical hernia. Sarah was immediately concerned that the hernia may involve more than just his abdominal wall so recommended that we performed some imaging to assess the full extent of the problem so as better to plan how we would help him.
X-rays showed a large defect in Bruce's abdominal wall, but also confirmed what Sarah was concerned about - a large diaphragmatic hernia as well. Due to the extensiveness of the defect in Bruce's diaphragm and abdomen, and the risk that defects may also involve his heart, we worked with a surgeon to perform the surgery. Surgery went well and Bruce had an amazing recovery from his anaesthetic. He did well for a few days but then developed pancreatitis, which meant that he spent a few days hospitalised with our 24 hour vets and nurses providing around the clock care for him. He recovered from his pancreatitis well and hasn't looked back since!
