We’re offering pets a free dental check to help keep their teeth and gums healthy. Regular dental care can help to catch problems early, helping to save money and worry over time.
Why dental health is important
There are also ways you can look after your pet’s dental care at home. Regular brushing can help prevent more serious problems like broken or infected teeth, gum disease, and cavities, which may need veterinary care. By including daily brushing in your pet’s routine, just like you do with your own teeth, you can keep them healthy.
Dental disease is one of the most common conditions found in pets, and if left untreated it can lead to other serious health problems. Up to 60% of dogs and 80% of cats over the age of two struggle with dental disease, but our pets can’t always let us know when they’re uncomfortable or in pain.
Your vet will gently examine your pet’s mouth for signs of plaque or tartar build-up. They’ll look for areas of swelling or bleeding, broken or loose teeth and signs of oral discomfort. They may use a dental probe to measure any pockets between the teeth and gums and they can order x-rays if necessary.
After the free dental check up, it's important to maintain your pet's dental health. You can register for routine preventative healthcare, by signing up to the Medivet Healthcare Plan.
