Dear Practice Manager,
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the care my dog, Poppy, has received at your practice over the last two weeks, and the associated costs totalling £350.
On 6 January, I brought Poppy in for an examination as she was clearly in discomfort. I was advised that she was suffering from arthritis in her legs, resulting in soreness and inflammation, and I agreed to proceed with the prescribed pain medication. Given that Poppy underwent surgery on her front leg joints approximately two years ago, I trusted this assessment and advice.
After a full week on the medication, there was no improvement in her condition. I returned to the practice and saw a different vet, explaining that the treatment had not helped and asking whether further medication or investigation was required. I was advised that the arthritis had “taken hold” and that there was little more that could be done. This visit cost a further £250.
Following this appointment, Poppy’s condition deteriorated significantly, and she appeared to be in increasing pain. As a result, I returned again today to express my serious concerns and to question whether the diagnosis was correct. After further review, the original vet now believes that Poppy requires further investigation by Anderson & Moore, the specialist practice that carried out her previous surgery.
I am extremely concerned and disappointed by this sequence of events. This is the second time your practice has diagnosed Poppy with arthritis, only for it later to be discovered that she was actually suffering from elbow dysplasia, as was the case two years ago. In light of this, I am very worried that Poppy has been left in unnecessary pain and that the medication prescribed over the last two weeks has been ineffective and inappropriate.
Given the circumstances, I feel that the £350 I have spent has been pointless, and more importantly, that my dog’s welfare has been compromised due to an incorrect or insufficient diagnosis.
I would appreciate a formal response addressing:
How this misdiagnosis occurred
Why further investigation was not recommended sooner, given Poppy’s history
What steps will be taken to prevent this happening again
Whether reimbursement of some or all of the costs incurred will be considered
I look forward to your response and hope this matter can be resolved promptly and appropriately.

I was so impressed by the time and care spent with my new puppy as he had his vaccination. He didn’t feel a thing. The receptionist was lovely too. I feel I have found the perfect vets for me and Eric.
