Head Surgical Veterinary Nurse

I have always had an interest in veterinary work originating from a farming background and took a student nurse position in a mixed practice in Leicestershire in 2003. I qualified in 2007 as a registered veterinary nurse (RVN) and decided to take locum roles in referral centres and small animal general practices all over the country. I worked at the animal charity PDSA for 10 years during which time I completed my diploma in advanced veterinary nursing (DipAVN) and graduated from Myerscough School of Veterinary Nursing in 2015. After this I worked as a volunteer abroad for 2 animal charities in Greece. In 2019, I took a head nurse role within Medivet for 3 years. I currently work within the nursing team at Medivet Roston Drive as head of the surgical department which is where my passion lies. Outside of work, I enjoy keeping tropical fish, walking, swimming and baking cakes.

Consulting Veterinary Nurse

After working for the Retired Greyhound Trust as a teenager, it inspired me to move into a career as a veterinary nurse in 2015. I started working in a veterinary hospital, before moving into a first opinion practice, before finally settling as a Consultation Nurse which is where my passion lies. I enjoy speaking to clients and working with them to help provide the best possible care for their pets.

I have always been interested in the veterinary profession with carrying out work experience at Roston Drive back in 2004!! I then moved to the then Fairfield vets (Leicester Road) where I stayed for 10 years!! I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse back in 2012 after completing my BSc (HONS) degree. After a few years, I gained my certificate in Emergency and Critical Care and worked nights in an emergency hospital which I thoroughly enjoyed!! These days you will find me at either Medivet Hinckley Roston Drive, Leicester Road or Coventry Road as practice manager.

Client Care Assistant

I started my career as a veterinary receptionist in March 2017 working at Vets4Pets in Hinckley where I became Head Receptionist. I really enjoyed my role there but left in 2021 to work at Bell, Brown & Bentley vets as they offered me set hours. Whilst at Bell, Brown & Bentley I completed the Bronze, Silver & Gold BVRA award and became an Associate Veterinary receptionist. I moved to Medivet Roston Drive in May 2023 as it’s much closer to where I live and I can walk to work. I love working as part of the Medivet Roston Drive Team and meeting all the pets and their owners. In my spare time I enjoy walking, spending time with my 4 grandchildren and looking after our 4 cats and a dog.

We were recommended this practise due, to a very good and experienced Vet called David. When we managed to see David, all was good. Sadly, David only works on a Friday and is in high demand, so on nearly every visit, we got a Locum (and a different one each time). This is not only bad due to having no consistency with our dog, but also one of them made an awful call, directing us to use a cream from a chemists. This actually made the problem worse and caused our dog some serious pain and discomfort. Our pet insurance, online vets reviewed what we were advised, and said that they couldn't believe that we'd been advised to use that cream (made for humans)? When I contacted the practise to complain and discuss the matter, the response I got was mind blowing? I was asked "What do you want us to do about it". I suggested that at the very least I should have a complimentary visit on credit (as i'd spent circa £160, was given bad advise, which made my dog suffer even more than he was already, and we were no further on with the issue). I was told absolutely not, and if I was unhappy, maybe I should look elsewhere? My wife was cautious about moving, so we stayed for a while, but they had ruined all my faith in Vets! Recently our boy had another issue. After the first visit to Roston Drive, his symptoms worsened (this wasn't due to anything they had done), but we needed to go to an out of hours vets, so ended up at Thurmaston Medivet. OMG!!! what a difference! in 10 minutes, the vet we saw had restored my faith. The attitude was so different to what we had experienced at Roston Drive. So different infact, that we moved there and then to Thurmaston, without any hesitation. I think that Medivet on Roston Drive is an awfully run practice. The mature lady on reception is rude, and the vets are often inexperienced Locums, trying things and charging a fortune for the privilege. If their first guess was incorrect, you can pay again and again for the visits and medication, until they stumble upon the solution? If you complain, they are simply not interested in making sure their customers are happy. I am relieved that we no longer use Medivet Roston Drive, and now have faith in Vets again. I believe that all Medivet's are individually ran. Therefore, you most definitely shouldn't tar them all with the same brush!

Medivet are a disgusting company. They buy out every independent vets practice in an area and then when they own them all they pump prices to profiteer. We will likely never have another pet now once our current one is gone - mainly due to the immoral practices of Medivet. Disgusting company.

No actual pet care, so expensive and no personal customer care. I am moving vets because they are now just a corporate entity that care about money and not animals. They were such a good vets and it is obvious they have been taken over. Hinckley’s pets and their owners deserve better.

Sadly I had to have my whippet PTS on Saturday, I have dealt with David Summers for many years so requested that he be the one that did this for me. He as usual was professional and caring with Koben to the end, also having to deal with me trying to hold it together and not very well at that! Thank you so much means more than you can ever imagine that you made it as easy as it could be.

care and treatment of our dog has been excellent - only downside is the amount of time it took to complete the veterinary section on the pet insurance form and send it off.
