I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College London (RVC) in 2019 and joined the Wantage team permanently in March 2021. I have a particular passion for surgery. Outside of work, I enjoy attending rock concerts, theatre shows and cinema screenings. I also play guitar, am a member of a choir and like to unwind by reading, cooking and bullet journaling. I have a tabby and white cat named Lennon, who first arrived at the practice as a stray and needed surgery to fix his dislocated hip. He’s made an excellent recovery and has been keeping my partner Chris and I on our toes ever since!

I started working with animals from a very young age and was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm so always surrounded by animals, cats, dogs, chickens, other small furry animals, and of course large farm animals. I volunteered and worked in kennels, catteries and rescue centres from the age of 13, and even gained my first job after doing work experience with them. I then registered as a Veterinary Nurse in 2016 but had been working and studying within practice for several previous years and joined the amazing Medivet Wantage team in 2022. I have great passion in helping every animal live their best life and have an interest in nurse clinics which helps me to achieve this. When not at work, you can find me out walking with my dog Rosa, playing with my cats, Basil and Sybil, or volunteering with the cadets inspiring them to achieve well.

I originally joined Danetree in 1987 as a trainee veterinary nurse. My role within the practice changed in 1990 when initially I became the farm animal receptionist and then went on to become the office manager at Medivet Faringdon branch. I am now working part time as a Client Care Assistant at both Medivet Wantage and Medivet Faringdon.

After a slightly varied career, I began working for Day and Partners (which very shortly changed to Danetree Veterinary Surgeons) in 1995. I qualified as a veterinary nurse from Berkshire College of Agriculture in 1998. I left Danetree in 2001 and took two years out on maternity leave, returning as a part-time receptionist in 2003. In practice I deal with all the insurance claims so you'll usually find me surrounded by a pile of paper work!

I've been working as Veterinary Receptionist since 1997. Me and my family share our home with two cats (we “share” while the cats think they “rule”). Hector is our lazy- and not so bright, ginger cat who I re-homed as an abandoned kitten. Hattie is our young cat who I re-homed.

I'm sure this review won't be made public but I am writing this in the hope that the vet team take note. Tilly was a much loved family member who out of nowhere started vomiting without relent. She was put to sleep after bravely suffering far too long. We continue to love and miss her. I am writing this for Tilly and in the hope that some changes are made to help other owners.
Firstly, we owners are not all stupid. I work for an organisation that helps farmers, vet techs and vets help reduce anthelmintics and I'm from a farming and equine background. I have experienced many animals get ill, injured, or die, and have had to make decisions around each situation. However, when a beloved pet becomes suddenly gravely ill, it's worth understanding that its owners are in shock and in a vulnerable position. There is not time to assimilate fully what is happening, let alone assess and make clear, informed judgements around interventions suggested by the vet team.
Secondly, just because vets CAN do interventions doesn't always mean that they SHOULD, particularly when those procedures are not going to effect a cure - eg offering to take the animal 'out the back' to put back in place a subluxating patella when the animal has been vomiting non-stop for days. Ditto dental work when it is obviously not going to effect a cure and the patient is ill and weak. Suggesting procedures unrelated to the presenting complaint is A) unethical and B) cruel.
Thirdly, gently managing expectations around worst case outcomes would be much kinder to pet and owner. Death is the inevitable end for all of us, and when an animal has been suffering for days and there is no improvement, there comes a time when euthansia is the kindest option, even if there are other diagnostic options. Where does it end? Sometimes is better to admit you just don't know what is wrong or what to do about it, rather than offer false hope and keep suggesting procedures, especially when the owner is in no fit state to make sound judgement.
I feel that I let Tilly down when she needed me most and I bitterly regret not advocating for her more strongly. At the time I felt judged for refusing futher interventions when actually I should have called a halt and let her go sooner. I needed help to arrive at this decision. I strongly suggest you get some training for your team around client support.
Thank you.

This has been my main vets since moving from Medivet Woodstock due to moving home. My little Lola was always treated with the utmost care and dignity throughout. I have nothing but positive words for this surgery. Their handling of everything from pet care to insurance claims is second to none. Marta especially has always been so kind and caring to Lola from routine visits until her final one. Thank you so much for everything
