Sian Humphries

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

Ever since I graduated from Cambridge University twelve years ago, I have spent my time being a proud small animal vet. Dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters alike, I'm happy to help any and all creatures great and small. The past few years I have dedicated my time to cats and am now a feline medicine certificate holder. I'm passionate about British wildlife and love nothing more than to turn my skills to an injured wild animal. More recently, I have been performing acupuncture treatments with great success, and will be leading the Beaminster team in Veterinary physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation medicine. My own pets, Felicity the cat and Spud the dog, keep me busy. My biggest hobby is swimming, mainly pool based as I love amateur level racing competitions. I do also climb regularly, and I'm very excited about the crags that the Southwest has to offer.

This career took her to Australia in October 2019 working on a Thoroughbred Stud Farm - Yarraman Park, for 2 years, doing yearling prep, weanling handling, foaling down and even riding one of the stallions Hellbent. Originally from Nottinghamshire Kirsty trained at a small animal practice and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2001. In 2002 she moved to a hospital grade practice, expanding her clinical skills and also providing a variety of nursing clinics including dental care, wound management and weight management. Here she passed her D32/33 Assessor exams and began teaching and assessing student Veterinary Nurses. In 2003 she worked as an Emergency RVN for Vets Now Ltd. based at the PDSA centre in Nottingham, caring for critical patients, enabling her to expand her clinical skills further. Dr Sian is very special. She is kind, thorough and always explains everything properly. Thank you.
My pets don't enjoy the trip to the vet, however they instantly calm down once in the surgery.

We are always happy with the level of treatment you provide and you are an excellent 'all round' team. Having enjoyed a 'tour' of your facilities last year we are now aware of all the amazing 'state of the art' equipment you have within the practice.
However, it seems to be a 'well kept secret'. We very much want to see the Beaminster Practice continue to thrive, but wish you wouldn't 'hide your light under a bushell!' Get out there and publicise yourselves - let the public know what you can do!

we have just recently moved to the area and sadly our little terriers (brother and sister) 17 years old were needing to be put to sleep, We rang medivets and spoke to the most lovely lady on reception who took the time to talk us through the procedure and was very compassionate and caring, we booked in for the following morning, when we turned up we were greeted by a lovely vet who took the time to explain everything throughly, she gave us some blankets and told us we could place our beautiful little dogs wherever we felt they would be comfortable and relaxed, we chose to get on the floor with them and held and talked to them while they took their last breath, the vet said there was no rush to leave and the room was free for us as long as we needed it, when we were ready she wrapped the dogs up in the blankets and helped us take them to the car, I went back to pay but the lovely lady on reception said it wasn't appropriate to do it today and would forward the bill onto us at a later date, we cant thank you all for the care and the dignified end they received today, it made a sad day so much easier.

I am on holiday and not local to the area but needed an emergency appointment for my dog which I was given just 2 hours after popping in to ask if anything were available. The lady on the front desk was so helpful and sympathetic and Sian the vet was very patient with my nervous dog. She prescribed medication which was dispensed there and then so I was able to start with the treatment immediately. I’m very grateful for their kindness and understanding, as is my dog who is already getting better. A massive thank you to you all. I highly recommend.

The only thing with which I have an issue is the cost of everything. The staff are so nice, kind and understanding. My animals have been very well cared for.

I have been very impressed by the empathy and understanding we have received at the Beaminster branch after our dog's cancer diagnosis. The vet Sian has been clear in what we could expect throughout the treatment and the wellbeing of our dog is at the heart of any recommendations she has made. The receptionists and nursing staff could not have been kinder and it is testimony to the whole practice that my dog would run excitedly up to the door so she could go in and greet them all (although that may have had something to do with the licky mat as well!)
Although we decided to stop the chemotherapy as our dog was not coping too well with it I believe that the treatment she did have has given her more time with us and at the moment she is doing really well.

  • Your vet in Beaminster

We are a warm, caring community practice based in Beaminster. We proudly offer a full range of veterinary services and excellent facilities.

Our facilities are all run by a team of highly qualified professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional patient and client care. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet.

  • Veterinary Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy is hugely important for regaining strength after surgeries, and restoring flexibility to joints in chronic diseases such as arthritis.  It incorporates pain relief techniques, helping to reduce our reliance on drugs..  All treatments are individualised but may contain thermotherapy, cryotherapy, massage, acupuncture, TENS, pulsed electromagnetic field device (PEMF), passive and active therapeutic exercises.

  • Dental X-ray

Only by x-raying a tooth can you fully understand it.  Problems below the gum line can easily otherwise missed, and possible complications arising from extractions can be prevented with knowledge of the full picture.
