i would like to start by saying this is the first review of any description I have written and have never felt the need to put pen to paper on any of my life experiences. For those of you that read this you will understand as a dog owner how attached and devoted you become to your best friend. My beautiful Labrador was showing signs of lameness in her hind leg on Thursday 1st October, over the next couple of days I noticed a significant swelling to the leg and the dog was clearly in pain and distressed. i therefore visited the surgery first thing on Monday 5th October and unfortunately could not get to see Mr Alexander. We were given anti biotics and pain killers as the young lady we saw was unsure what the problem was. My dog's condition deteriorated quickly over the next couple of days so I made an appointment to specifically see Mr Alexander on Thursday 8th October as I was sure there was something seriously wrong, on arrival we were told he had been called out on an emergency and we saw the same young lady who advised x rays, we left our dog for this to be done and arranged to collect her later that day once the anaesthetic had eased. We duly did so and we were told the x rays had not highlighted any issues, the young lady prescribed a different anti biotic and told us to refrain from giving the pain killers as they may impact on the effectiveness of the antibiotic. We persevered with the lady's advice over the next couple of days however the pain our dog was suffering was breaking our hearts and we had to resort to trying to ease it by giving her the pain killers. On the Sunday evening we did not sleep whilst trying to console our beloved dog and we called the vets first thing Monday am and organised to see Mr Alexander. Within a few moments of Mr Alexander assessing our dog we were told she had a tumour in her stomach and the one on her leg was probably a secondary tumour, she had been in serious pain and suffering unnecessarily for 10 days, we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go. I cannot describe the loss we felt although the sense of relief that she was no longer suffering helped. It is absolutely clear that our dog suffered incredible prolonged pain that was totally unnecessary.
