Kyumi McDonald

Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified in 2005 in South Korea and joined Medivet in 2007, becoming branch partner at Risedale in 2009. I've completed a programme in Equine Dentistry and Reproduction from Texas A&M University and have a masters degree in Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals. I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. I'm interested in small animal surgery, specifically laparoscopic and orthorpaedic surgeries. I love the relationship I have with all our clients and their pets, and am enjoying learning and progressing in my role everyday. At home I have a rescue cat called Garlie. Garlie had several serious health issues when he was first adopted, now with our tender loving care, he is totally transformed to be a happy, content and loving cat.

Practice Story

Here’s a heartwarming example of the team's care and commitment to their community.

Last November, the team in Risedale took in Lexi, an abandoned and pregnant cat from the Hemel Hempstead area. They were committed to ensuring she was comfortable and cared for during the birth of her three kittens.

The team weaned them and watched their personalities begin to develop. They spent every break they got with the kittens, coming into the practice in the early hours and on weekends to provide the best care possible.

Sarah, a nurse at the practice, said “It’s a great opportunity for the nurses. We’re hand-rearing them and seeing them develop every day. We’ve watched them first opening their eyes, to now playing out of their cage.”

Lexi and her litter have now been rehomed, some going to the staff who couldn't resist.

Medivet was recommended to me by friends and i was not disappointed. All their staff were friendly and professional. They took their time with my puppy to make sure she was comfortable before doing any checks or vaccinations. Their healthcare plan is affordable and very beneficial to any pet owner. Overall i was very happy and would definitely recommend them to anyone
