Medivet Pontefract

Appointments were running a little late, but these things happen sometimes. The vets and the staff were lovely, and my doggy was well looked after

It is heart breaking to have to write this review but I think 2 chances is enough when it comes to pet health. This review covers both Pontefract and Rotherham branches. On Tuesday 10th March I had to rush my dog to the 24hr branch at Rotherham at midnight. On arrival I was greeted with a very negative attitude and basically told off for not calling first (Ok my fault I guess but I didn't know that was procedure, I just acted quickly to try and help my dog). The vet administered a steroid injection and told me to visit my local branch the next day. This service cost over £160. I then had an appointment at Pontefract the next day where I was told that antibiotics would be required. I was asked if I wanted to have swobs done before the antibiotics. I said I would let them know the following day and was told that I can call first thing in the morning and confirm the plan and collect my antibiotics. This visit cost another £60. I called the next morning at 9am and was told that as soon as a vet was available they would contact me to arrange the antibiotics. I called 5 times throughout the day only to be told the same message over and over. At 6pm I went to the Pontefract branch in person as I was desperate to get the medication for my dog. I was told again that there was nobody available to administer the medication. I called again at 11am on Thursday (now 2 days after the initial consultation) only to be told yet again that nobody was available however I could make an appointment to see the vet again that day!! As it stands, I have now visited the vet 3 times, called them on the phone 6 times and spent over £220 and I still have no medication for my dog. In October last year, we rushed our cat to the Rotherham branch as became very poorly very quickly. The Rotherham branch kept him in for 3 days running up a bill of over £4,000. When we asked if we could visit him we were absolutely appalled by his condition. We immediately instructed the vet to put him to sleep as his condition was punishing and inhumane. Our cat should have been put to sleep days earlier, instead they kept him alive in an incubator running up a massive bill. It breaks my heart to say this but Medivet do not care about our animals, it is my firm opinion that hey are solely a money making organisation and should be investigated by the proper authorities.

My first time at Medivet but it was fabulous - super friendly and helpful and we were seen to quickly and lots of care shown towards my pet. Lots of questions answered without any problems at all. Thank you!

Last time I booked 6month health check appointment, which is included in healthcare plan. But I was charged £54 for consultation. And when I brought urine sample, which also included in the plan, I was asked to pay again, but I refused.
I don’t understand why I need to pay twice. And what the point of healthcare plan?
Also my cat keeps having exactly the same problems during the year, I’ve been in clinic 3 times. And every time they give the same medicine, but problem comes back again in few months, which is disappointing

My dog had pain in her paw. I called for an appointment expecting it to be at least the next day but I was told I could come straight away and wait for a gap in appointments....we were seen quicker than times when I'd made an appointment well in advance!!!
The vet was great with my dog - my dog, not so much....she always has to wear a muzzle but she did stand on the scales without any fuss.
This practice seems to be improving and you tend to see the same staff which means you get to know them and that makes the visit more relaxed.
Still very expensive....£50+ for a consultation...the medication was less.

There was a high demand at the time I rang the practice. So I tried the online booking system as suggested , for the first time ever. I tried to register but it said it recognised my email. Therefore it wouldn’t allow me to register or put a password in. So I gave up. I rang the practice again. The receptionist said she had no idea what was wrong. So your online booking system is really not useful at all. I booked via the phone eventually.

In & out quickly when I took my dog for vaccinations.Receptionists, nurses vets all very nice & friendly.
